SILMADE
Innovative coating for a reduced coefficient of friction
Due to its properties and high elasticity, silicone is valued and widely used at both high and low temperatures. However, the high coefficient of friction (COF) of silicone presents us with challenges.
Previous coating methods for reducing the coefficient of friction had a negative effect on the flexibility of the silicone part. Due to the high coefficient of friction, protective coatings did not adhere well to the surface and rubbed off quickly.
Your task
- Reduction of the coefficient of friction of silicone
- Highly abrasion-resistant protective coating
- Very good adhesion properties
- Highly flexible and elastic
- Less dirt and dust adhesion
- Lightfast and resistant to chemicals
Our implementation
The polyurethane-based silmade® Low Friction finish has greatly reduced friction values while remaining highly flexible. A special surface pre-treatment by Silcos ensures very good adhesion between the coating and the silicone surface.
The process is used for coating functional parts such as seals and O-rings, as well as for decorative surfaces such as bracelets and wearables.
- Reduction of the coefficient of friction by up to 70 %
- Very good adhesion between the silicone surface and the polyurethane coating
- Very abrasion and scratch resistant
- Highly flexible and elastic
- Temperature-stable up to 110°C (temporarily even higher)
- Certified to EN ISO 10993-5 and DIN ISO 10993-10
Our summary
Highly flexible and elastic.
3D moulded parts and silicone foams that are coated with the silmade® Low Friction process have a high reduction in the friction coefficient, remain highly flexible and are particularly durable thanks to their high scratch and abrasion resistance.
